Christmas and Deer Scrapbook page

While Christmas is over I still wanted a chance to share the two retiring stamp set that I have that are Christmas. Here in Utah we’ve been wondering if Spring was ever going to come. We’ve had record breaking snow and it’s been coming down clear into April. I figured rather than making cards since Christmas is still a ways off, I would focus instead on scrapbook pages that I can put some of those fun Holiday pictures on.

I went with something a bit not traditional mixing together, browns, blues and greens. I also wanted to use as many retiring items that were seasonal as I could. You may notice that I used some new and returning colors. Yep, I’m enjoying playing with some of these new colors. The lighter blue is the new in color Boho Blue and the darker color is a returning in color that has been added to the core colors, Misty Moonlight. I love how they work so well together.

There is so much detail to this page that I thought I would share a few close up shots. The trees along the bottom are a punch where as the other trees I fussy cut as well as some of the deer. What I really love is the greetings all meshed together. Both of these sets have lots of great says that work well on cards, but I thought they made a fun word blog on the page. You will also notice the two embossed images using the Wintry 3D Embossing Folders. I always love it when a project turns out well, especially when I didn’t have an idea what to do when I started.

Adjusting layout ideas

I mentioned a while ago that I have a Pinterest board that I often go to when I need some inspiration, especially for layout ideas. This time I gave myself the challenge to use the same layout and same designer series papers with three different stamp sets. The Designer series paper I chose to use is the Design a Daydream paper that is only available as a hostess item. I will say it’s one of my favorite set of papers. Just a reminder hostess items are only available if your order is over $150 or if you gather some friends together to place your orders together. I would be happy to help you get your own free items.

The point of this was to help you see that first I may use something as an inspiration, but I don’t always follow it exactly and second to help you see how you can take an idea and make it your own.

Beauty of Friendship

The first set I decided to start with was the beauty of friendship set. I’ve had this set since if first came out and have actually used it quite a bit. It was fun to pull it out and try something new with it. I even used another new in color, Coper Clay, for the base of the tree and the embossed background. For this card I used an embossed piece for the thinner section rather than designer series paper.

A Little Cheesy

This time I used two different designer series papers and layered the center image. I also changed the sizes just a bit. I was originally going to use the cookie images in the stamp set, but decided that the pudding one worked better with the DSP colors. The pudding image is stamped in blackberry bliss and then I used the blender pens to color it in. I had to be careful so I didn’t end up getting the blackberry color in the yellow pudding. Oh and by the way the yellow color is one of our new colors Lemon Lolly.

Lovely You

I decided to really go different with this one and create a slim line card. The size is 8 1/2 by 3 when folded. I got the idea for the 3D tulips from my friend Rose Coleman as she made a fun spring project with them. What’s cool is they are done in such a way that they can still flatten down for mailing (it will required hand stamped postage though.) They are easy to create simply by punching three tulips and then scoring them down the center and gluing the three sections together. I used directly to paper technique to add some color to them. I added dimension by using a bamboo stick for the stem and rolling it in the ink. Be sure to use a bone folder to add some depth and dimension to your leaves. I think someone would feel pretty special getting a card like this.

Loveliest Layers Decorative Masks

I don’t know about you but sometimes I like to have cards on hand that are just basic with no words in them. This way I can write whatever I want for any occasion or I can add a sentiment inside at the time that I need the card. The Loveliest Layers Decorative Masks are featured in the Mini Catalog and were and item that we could get for free during Sale-a-Brations. I chose to get mine for free and this was the first time that I’ve had the chance to use them. They are so easy to use with our blending brushes and I thought they were perfect to make this type of card. You may also notice some new products on this project. That’s right I received my catalog pre-order (one of the many perks of being a demonstrator) and thought this project would be perfect to try out some of the new colors and ribbons.

One of the cool things about these masks is there is no need for two different colors. Because you are going over the top of each other and because you are using the blending brushes you have control of the amount of ink you apply to the project. This makes it easy to get the contrast on the flower and leaves with only two colors. The base of the card was also created using the masks. I finished the card off with some of the new in-color ribbon that you will be able to purchase in May with the new catalog. The flower and ribbon are both using one of the five new in colors – Moody Mauve. This color is so different from what we have in our collection. I think you are going to love using it.

Adventure Awaits

It’s been a while since I’ve created a scrapbook page but I had this idea while I was doing some training at my new job. Have you ever gotten and idea from a project from somewhere kind of unusual? During the training they kept showing a picture and then drawing a line from the picture to create a rectangle. My mind immediately thought it would make a great card front or accent for a scrapbook page. As I mentioned the other day my family loves to be outdoors and I fell in love with the Campology stamp set wanting to use if for scrapbook pages. When I started creating this project I was drawn to the Greatest Journey Dies that I showcased early. I enjoyed combining the Enjoy the Journey Suite with the Campology Stamps to create this fun scrapbook layout. Now I just need to go camping so I can add some pictures.

I thought that I would give you a close up of some of the details on the page. Rather than cutting out the letters and placing them on the cardstock I actually did the reverse and lined them up and cut them out using the cutout as my header. I used some old washi tape to hold them in place so they didn’t move as I was cutting them out. The advantage to this technique was that I didn’t have to worry about attaching a bunch of small pieces to my project.

I really love how the accent pieces turned out. I think I may create more projects using this outline technique. It was simple to create using a ruler and our stampin’ write markers. I also used black to add shadow to some of the images as a way to incorporate the black accessories I wanted to use from the suite. I finished it off by using accents from the greatest journey suite including some of the awesome designer series paper which is where I pulled my color scheme from.

When I started this project I originally used the colors Shaded Spruce and Very Vanilla, but then I ended up deciding to use elements from the Enjoy the Journey Suite and the Designer Series Paper used slightly different colors. Rather than let my original focal image go to waste I turned it into a quick card adding in additional embellishments and words from the suite.

Friendly Gnomes

Don’t you just love this stamp set and matching dies. When they first introduced the gnomes in the holiday catalog I loved them and was excited to see a new set in the mini catalog. I just wish they would have ended up in the new catalog, but unfortunately we have to say goodbye to the cute little guys.

I had a little bit of fun with this card and created some unique folds in how the card opens. I focused on just the image on the front with the message on a special flap that folds down to expose the inside of the card. To create this start with a 11 x 4 1/4 piece of card stock that is scored at 2 3/4 from each side. The face of the card is attached to one side and the other is free to be used for a message. When the card is folded it looks like the background is solid.

  • 158987 – Iridescent Pearl Basic Jewels (C)
  • 141897 – Wink of Stella Clear Glitter Brush (C)
  • Stampin Blends used to color the gnome
  • Colors – Night of Navy (C), Flirty Flamingo (C), Balmy Blue (C), Smoky Slate (C), Basic White (C)

(R) Retiring, (C) Carrying Over, (M) Found in the Mini Catalog

The gnome dies that carried over from the holiday mini catalog are also retiring. I thought I’d share this cute card that features just the dies. I love that the dies can cut out the lined images or that you can create an gnome strictly from the dies.

  • 159625 – Gnomes Dies (R)

As you can see I really love this set so I thought I’d share a few more samples. I hope you enjoy them. Remember the retiring items are available while supplies last but will be gone for good at the end of the month. There are also many items on sale. Be sure to order today to get your favorites before it’s to late. The hostess code is listed on the right hand side.

Greatest Journey

Have you ever fallen in love more with the dies than with the stamp set?

That is how I felt when I first saw this suite. It was the dies that drew me to them. Maybe because my family is very outdoors and we love to camp, hike and bike and I thought these would be perfect to make cards for them and scrapbook pages. When I started to play with this stamp set I really wanted to use the blending brushes in a unique and different way. I chose to use the dies to cut out a template that I held to create a layered effect on the card. Rather than having a blended look by using the template I was able to create depth to the background without adding more layers. I finished it off by layering cardstock that I embossed the saying on with white embossing powder and the used one of the die cut images as a focal point.

I originally created this card as a swap with my Stampin’ Up! team and I’m happy to report that I was one of the winners of the swap with this card. Here is a close up picture where you can see the detail better.

After creating the card for the swap I decided I wanted to see what I could come up with using some of the other images and sayings in the set. Here’s what I came up with. What do you think? I still like the first one the best, but I like these as well. I know I’ve said this before, but I’m sad this one didn’t carry over from the mini catalog as I think it’s a great set and I love the dies.
