What does growth really mean?

When most people think about growth, they think about learning something new or becoming better at a skill. While that’s certainly part of it, I’ve discovered that true growth goes much deeper than that.

Creativity isn’t just about making beautiful things. It’s about expressing what’s inside of us, discovering who we are, building confidence, connecting with others, and becoming the person we’re meant to be.

Throughout my 20 years as a demonstrator I have grown in ways I never expected. Yes, I’ve learned new techniques, expanded my knowledge and understanding in scrapbook and card layouts, learned more and more complicated fun-folds and projects; however, my true growth goes beyond the creative aspects. I’ve grown in confidence, I’ve learned to take risks and step out of my comfort zone. I’ve learned that it’s OK to fail, and that sometimes what we might consider as failure is actually another path I’ve discovered. I’ve learned to make meaningful connections and have grown friendships that I cherish. I’ve learned how my creativity can help, inspire and help others to grow and most importantly I’ve learned more about myself and who I want to be.

I’ve also learned that growth never stops expanding my creativity helps to inspire new ideas in other areas of my life and other creative persuits. It has helped me to be a better mentor, leader and friend providing guidance, being there when needed and cheering them on as they strive to reach their own goals.

Where has your creative journey taken you and where would you like to go?

Growth is a personal journey only you can map out. I encourage you to complete the 🌱 Grow section of the 🗺️My Creative Journey Workbook to help you discover where your map leads you.

Growth can happen even if we are looking; however, think of how much better it could be if we look at where we’ve been and where we want to go. Taking a road trip with no destination in mind may sound fun at the beginning but the first time you stop at a hotel not knowing their is a huge event in town and no rooms for miles may make that journey not as fun. Taking time to make a tentative plan can not only make the journey easier, but help you not to miss out on key adventures along the way.

Your creative journey is similar to a road trip. You could just fumble along, but if you had a map that you could look at that might guide you towards destination that would interest you and help you discover more of what you want can make the journey not only a better experience but also help you grow in way you never thought possible

Just like taking a trip and making a plan before you begin, I encourage you to revisit this at least once a year —or anytime your interests begin to change. It’s a wonderful way to reflect on what you’ve learned, celebrate your progress, and discover where your creativity wants to take you next.

📈 Personal Growth

While this site focuses a lot on creativity, personal growth is the hidden part you may not see at first as you travel through your creative journey. I know when I started my journey the ways I’ have grown personally were not even on my radar. In this section we will explore some of the experiences that have helped me grow, and how they can help strength your creativity.

Here you will find ways to build confidence, use what you already own, finish projects, overcome creative road blocks, develope your style, organizational tips and tricks, creative routines and building a creative mindset.

🎯 Creative Challenges

Creative challenges are one of the ways that had helped me to grow the most. I’ve found that participating in a challenge pushes me to try something I never would have, inspires me with layouts and color combos I haven’t though of before and often gets me to think a little differently which can totally change how I create in the future. I remember in one of my middle school art classes our challenge was to draw an image that was up on the screen, only it was upside down. I was surprised what this taught me because it forced me to look at it differently and after that when I was struggling I would flip it upside down and try looking at it a different way.

Finding your creative community provides you with people share your interest so you can learn from each other, find accountability, inspiration, share projects, build friendships and more. Discover some of my favorite creative communities and how you can become a part of them.

One of the things I’ve discovered is that finding a community that shares your interests is invaluable, whether it’s a group of people you connect with at work, others interested in places your ways you want to travel or spend your free time, like sports, gardening, reading and yes crafting of any kind finding your people to connect with is key to helping you grow.

⭐ Leadership

I’ve spent years learning more about leadership, not only in my Stampin’ Up! business, but in my professional life as well. Most places use the word Manager (including my work title) but I prefer the word leadership as it means so much more and is what I strive to be.

I’ve never believed leadership comes from a title. To me, leadership means encouraging others, helping them see their potential, and celebrating their successes along the way. Whether you’re leading a team, your family, or simply leading by example, we all have the ability to make a positive difference.

Here you will find mentoring, goal setting, the importance of celebrating the wins both big and small, building confidence and team recognition. Leadership isn’t about titles it’s about encouraging others helping them with their goals and personal development.

As you learn and grow I want to help you to become the leader I know you can be by mentoring you, helping you to set goal, sharing what I’ve learned and books and ideas that have helped me along the way. Growth Never Ends

If you’ve made it this far, you’ve probably realized that growth isn’t a destination you eventually arrive at. It’s something that continues throughout our lives. I would say the learn, connect, create grow is a circle but it’s not really as you can jump in at any point, move forward, backward or jump around depending on what is right for you at the time in your creative journey.

That’s the beauty of it. The journey is yours to take as you see fit. I’m just here to help you along the way and tell you thank you for allowing me to be a part of your journey. Watching others grow is one of the things I enjoy most and being a part of your journey is a true gift.
