Inspired by TGIF Challenges #TGIFC585

As I’ve been working behind the scenes updating my website, one of the pages I’ve been most excited to create is a new section dedicated to the creative challenges I love participating in. Challenges are one of my favorite ways to spark creativity, try new techniques, and look at my supplies in a whole new way.

While putting that page together, I came across the TGIF Challenges #TGIFC585 sketch and knew it would be the perfect inspiration for my next project.

For this card, I reached for the Splash and Relax Bundle to create a bright, cheerful summer design. The sketch immediately made me think of sunshine, water, and relaxing by the pool.

To create the background, I used the Water & Dotted Lines Mask with a blending brush, layering Pool Party, Coastal Cabana, and Pretty Peacock ink to build the water effect. Once the ink was blended, I added a simple splash of water across the background to lift some of the color and create natural texture. It’s one of my favorite techniques because it’s incredibly easy but gives such beautiful results.

One other little detail I love is the baker’s twine. Rather than searching for the perfect color, I started with the gray baker’s twine from the pack and used my blending brush with Pretty Peacock ink to color it. It’s such an easy technique that lets you customize your twine to match any project. Plus, it gives you even more ways to use all the colors included in a multicolor pack!

I finished the card with a bright life preserver, my custom-colored baker’s twine, a simple greeting, and a few embellishments to keep the focus on the fun background.

Sometimes the simplest designs become my favorites, and this one definitely makes me smile. Between the ink-blended background, the water splatter texture, and the colored baker’s twine, this card uses a few easy techniques that add lots of interest without adding much extra work.

If you’ve never tried a sketch challenge before, I encourage you to give one a try. They are a wonderful way to get inspired and stretch your creativity.

April Club- Just Beachy

April '09 FishThis post is a little late, but I thought you would like to see the fun projects we did for club in April.  I featured the fun Just Beachy set from the mini catalog and showed them how to do the cracked Glass technique.  I love this technique it looks so cool and is actually really easy to do.I got this fun idea from Kelly.  You can check out her blog here:   http://stampinparadise.blogspot.com.  I changed it a bit.

April '09 Fish Close UpI thought if you are really different than maybe you would be a different color.  I don’t know if you noticed it but this fish is the only one in the set that goes the other way.  Here is a close up of the cracked glass.

April '09 BeachHere is the scrapbook page that I came up with using the card as my inspiration.  I love how simple it is, but it has just a fun summer feel.  We colored the fish with the watercolor wonder crayons and a aqua painter.

April '09 B-dayThis is the second card that my card group made.  I totally cased it from a blog, I tried to find it again so I could tell you who, but I couldn’t.  I changed the saying in the center, but the rest is basically like hers.  I thought it was a really cute card.  The size is actually 5×5 go go in our 5 1/2 x 5 1/2 envelops.  The fish are punched out with the 1 1/4″ Square Punch and then sponged with the pacific point.

April '09 B-day InsideWe stamped Happy Birthday from the $10.00 and under page on the inside.  Of course we used Whisper White craft in so that it would show up.

Matchbox Thank You BoxesSince I had also just got the Matchbox die of course we had to try that out as well.  Here is our fun projects using the match box die and the designer series paper from the mini catalog Walk in the Park.

Freewheeling Friday 3-6-09

sun-fun-cardI received this cute card at convention.  I was created by  D. Waterman (I think that was in her email address).  I love how she used the word window punch to create the Popsicles.  The watermelon is made by cutting the 1-1/4″ and 1-3/8″ Circle punches in 1/2.

I really love how she kept the wheel part simple and just rolled it across in the middle.  She also rolled the background of the white part with a different roller.  This is just a fun summer card.  I think it would also be a cute accent on a scrapbookpage.
