Thrifty Thursday 2-5-09

This is a card that I created for a Shoebox swap that I did.  A shoebox swap is where you create a card and then cut out enough for all the guest.  Then you go around the room and make each others cards.  It’s really fun.

Wacky Wednesday 2-4-09

So I got a fun package from the UPS man today.  It was my order with some of the fun new products.  I got the new cutter bee circle cutter and some new stuff for the big shot.  Of course I just had to try it out.  My son actually gave me the perfect opportunity.  His Birthday is in the middle of summer when life is usually crazy so I told him we could have a 1/2 Birthday party instead.  We are planning for Friday night so I made him these cute cards to invite his friends.  His favorite color is blue so of course I had to use the in-color Pacific point.  Plus I had to try out my new toys.

bold-cupcake-diecut-card1I really loved putting the texture on the Bold cupcakes.  The frosting has the swirl plate and the cake has the polk-a-dot.  Then I used the directly to paper technique to get a little ink on them and really make them pop.  I loved how it turned out.  I really loved using the circle cutter.  It was so fast and easy.  I can’t wait to try it for more projects. 

I did learn that I need to cut out the items with the big shot and then run the texture on them otherwise the pressure of cutting it just smooths it back out again.  Anyway I had lots of fun and my son loved them so I hope you like it too.

Technique Tuesday 2-3-09

I’ve been doing a Stampin’ Bootcamp the last couple of weeks and each we she gives us a Stampin’ Task.  Last week our task was to try out a new technique.  I was excited for this task because I had just seen this technique at Janice’s meeting and I was anxious to give it a try.

I don’t know if the technique has a name or not.  Janice saw it at Stampin’ Up! regional  in Orlando.  This technique is embossing the flowers from the pretties kit.  I was told that they used a blender pen and just got the flower wet.  But I found I couldn’t keep it wet long enough to keep the powder on when I would heat it.  So I did it the way the I learned at our meeting.

you-rockIt’s really pretty easy all I did was ink up the flower by pressing it into a VersaMark pad.  Then I sprinkled on the embossing powder and heated it up.  The sample I had seen was done with the black embossing powder, but I wanted to try some different stuff.  I also used iridescent ice on one flower. 

I also wanted to try it with color.  I pressed the flower into the regal rose craft pad.  Then I covered it with iridescent ice on the flower.  I actually used all three flowers on my card.  I really loved how it turned out.  I think it would make a great card for a teenager.

Marvelous Monday 2-2-09

mojo72sketchI  saw a couple of different blogs that had a layout called Mojo Monday.  Some of you may be aware of it but it was new to me and I loved it.  The person who started it decided that Monday’s were blah days so she needed something to get her Mojo going.  Each Monday she posts a new design layout.  I thought this was a great layout resource.  She even shows samples of how it can be used and she has a monthly contest.  I encourage you to check it out especially when you need some inspiration.  Her website is www.mojomonday.blogspot.com.

Stampin’ Sunday 2-1-09

Last weekend we had a fun day of Stamping at Janice’s down-line meeting.  Here are the rest of the fun projects that we got to make.

This is a fun pillow box.  I know you can’t see it but we used the new textured plates on it and it looks really cool.  The flower is the new Simple Flower embosslit die .  I love that it embosses it and cuts it out with just one quick turn through the big shot.   We used a half pearl from the pretties kit for the center.  The tag is made by stamping in VersaMark pad and embossing with white embossing powder.  I love that we got to use the new organza ribbon.  I think it is so pretty.
