Adventure Awaits

It’s been a while since I’ve created a scrapbook page but I had this idea while I was doing some training at my new job. Have you ever gotten and idea from a project from somewhere kind of unusual? During the training they kept showing a picture and then drawing a line from the picture to create a rectangle. My mind immediately thought it would make a great card front or accent for a scrapbook page. As I mentioned the other day my family loves to be outdoors and I fell in love with the Campology stamp set wanting to use if for scrapbook pages. When I started creating this project I was drawn to the Greatest Journey Dies that I showcased early. I enjoyed combining the Enjoy the Journey Suite with the Campology Stamps to create this fun scrapbook layout. Now I just need to go camping so I can add some pictures.

I thought that I would give you a close up of some of the details on the page. Rather than cutting out the letters and placing them on the cardstock I actually did the reverse and lined them up and cut them out using the cutout as my header. I used some old washi tape to hold them in place so they didn’t move as I was cutting them out. The advantage to this technique was that I didn’t have to worry about attaching a bunch of small pieces to my project.

I really love how the accent pieces turned out. I think I may create more projects using this outline technique. It was simple to create using a ruler and our stampin’ write markers. I also used black to add shadow to some of the images as a way to incorporate the black accessories I wanted to use from the suite. I finished it off by using accents from the greatest journey suite including some of the awesome designer series paper which is where I pulled my color scheme from.

When I started this project I originally used the colors Shaded Spruce and Very Vanilla, but then I ended up deciding to use elements from the Enjoy the Journey Suite and the Designer Series Paper used slightly different colors. Rather than let my original focal image go to waste I turned it into a quick card adding in additional embellishments and words from the suite.

Friendly Gnomes

Don’t you just love this stamp set and matching dies. When they first introduced the gnomes in the holiday catalog I loved them and was excited to see a new set in the mini catalog. I just wish they would have ended up in the new catalog, but unfortunately we have to say goodbye to the cute little guys.

I had a little bit of fun with this card and created some unique folds in how the card opens. I focused on just the image on the front with the message on a special flap that folds down to expose the inside of the card. To create this start with a 11 x 4 1/4 piece of card stock that is scored at 2 3/4 from each side. The face of the card is attached to one side and the other is free to be used for a message. When the card is folded it looks like the background is solid.

The gnome dies that carried over from the holiday mini catalog are also retiring. I thought I’d share this cute card that features just the dies. I love that the dies can cut out the lined images or that you can create an gnome strictly from the dies.

As you can see I really love this set so I thought I’d share a few more samples. I hope you enjoy them. Remember the retiring items are available while supplies last but will be gone for good at the end of the month. There are also many items on sale. Be sure to order today to get your favorites before it’s to late. The hostess code is listed on the right hand side.

Greatest Journey

Have you ever fallen in love more with the dies than with the stamp set?

That is how I felt when I first saw this suite. It was the dies that drew me to them. Maybe because my family is very outdoors and we love to camp, hike and bike and I thought these would be perfect to make cards for them and scrapbook pages. When I started to play with this stamp set I really wanted to use the blending brushes in a unique and different way. I chose to use the dies to cut out a template that I held to create a layered effect on the card. Rather than having a blended look by using the template I was able to create depth to the background without adding more layers. I finished it off by layering cardstock that I embossed the saying on with white embossing powder and the used one of the die cut images as a focal point.

I originally created this card as a swap with my Stampin’ Up! team and I’m happy to report that I was one of the winners of the swap with this card. Here is a close up picture where you can see the detail better.

After creating the card for the swap I decided I wanted to see what I could come up with using some of the other images and sayings in the set. Here’s what I came up with. What do you think? I still like the first one the best, but I like these as well. I know I’ve said this before, but I’m sad this one didn’t carry over from the mini catalog as I think it’s a great set and I love the dies.

Flowers – Stamped or Die Cut?

Art Gallery Stamp Set

I created this card for my husband for Valentines day. His favorite color is purple and I have been wanting to play around with this stamp set for a while. It is a gift card holder card like I showed the other day. From the front you wouldn’t know it as I created the background to look layered. Rather than putting the main image on multiple background papers I used strips of paper so that I could apply them to the strip that is attached to the card back to hold the gift card.

Summer Shadows Dies

I wanted to try a card that featured using just dies for the main image. As I have the Summer Shadows dies and not the stamp set I thought this would be the perfect die set to give this a try. I decided to go with the purple and green theme again. This is a Z-fold card using a die cut image as the overlap. I love all the saying is the Stepping Stones stamp set and will be sad to see them go.

I’ve included a close up shot so you can see all the detail in the flowers. Remember that this was created by just using the dies and no stamps or inks. I added some dimension by including the Sprig Trinkets. The second picture is the opened card where you can see the other flower is on the background.

Uniquely Artistic

Uniquely Artistic is another stamp set that I received as a gift and wasn’t sure what to do with it. I struggled with the ideas a bit but thought that it would be the perfect set to pair with the Thanks and Hello embossing folders that are also retiring. Rather than stamping a greeting I used the Wink of Stella to highlight the word I wanted to focus on as you can see it the closer up image.

  • Colors – Crumb Cake (C), Soft Suede (R), Old Olive (C), Pear Pizzazz (R), Basic White (C)

(R) Retiring, (C) Carrying Over

I went with different colors and a slightly different look for the other embossing folder and image but kept the same basic idea of highlighting the word with the Wink of Stella. I used the trim from the online exclusives and some vellum cardstock to add depth to the flower image.

Love Cats Stamp Set

Today I thought I would jump over to a stamp set from the mini catalog that is retiring. Just a reminder that while some of the items in the mini catalog will be carrying over many are retiring with the main catalog so be sure to get your favorites be for they are gone. My daughter is super sad to see this stamp set go as she is a huge cat fan. I need to give the creativity of these cards to her. She wanted to stamp with me one day so I had her pick things out and help to figure out how to stamp them. I guided her a bit as she is only 11 but overall they were mostly her creations. I think she did a great job.

  • Colors – Polished Pink (R), Basic Black (C), Basic White (C)

(R) Retiring, (C) Carrying Over. (M) Found in the Mini Catalog

I bought the set specifically so she could use it for her valentine’s. We played around with a couple of ideas, ended up doing the project on the right which was attaching the image to one of our 3×3 envelopes. Before attaching it we punched a small hole in the bottom that we could put a sucker stick through. One of the things I loved about this project is that we used the stamparatus to make it easy for her to stamp the same image over and over again. I’m really sad that this tool is leaving as I haven’t had much of a chance to share it, but it sure can come in handy.
