Technique Tuesday 3-17-09

I have often been asked how I get my knots so nice. I will have to confess when I first started I turned to my up-line all the time for help. Now after a thousand swaps or so I can finally tie a good knot. I thought that maybe if I showed you step by step it would help.

I think the biggest thing that helps me is I usually tie the knot when it is still connected to the roll of ribbon. This makes it easy to always tie it correctly because I only have one end of the ribbon to work with.

Step 1- So first I place my ribbon under the idem I am going to tie the knot on.

Step 2- Next I cross the two pieces of ribbon. As you can see the roll of ribbon is now on the left side and the end I am tying with is crossed over to the right.

Step 3- Next you want to fold the lose end over the top and under the end attached to the roll.

Step 4- Now fold down the end attached to the roll. Now both ends of the ribbon should be facing down. The loose end is on the right side and the attached end is on the left side.

Step 5- Fold the lose end up across the attached end.

Step 6- Tuck the lose end under the attached end.

Step 7- Your finished knot. I believe this is called a square not, but I’m not sure. You think I would know since I have 4 boys and they are in scouts. I have found that when I tie a knot like this the ends both go down. If I want them to go up I just tie it upside down. On of the keys to a perfect knot is to keep the ribbon nice and flat through each step.

Here is the finished project. I hope that this helps you in tying the perfect knot. Remember that it also takes practice so just keep on tying.

Marevelous Monday 3-16-09

At our meeting on the 13th we were each asked to bring a 3D project. I took my game night score keeper. Then we drew names to trade with. I was very excited to get this project. It is from my friend Megan Dunn. You can check out her blog at www.welldunnideas.blogspot.com. This fun little box holds 4 cards with envelops.

I love that she embossed the little birds. The cards are so simple and so fun. I really like them. I just might have to get this stamp set now. This set also matches the good friend stamp set.

Swapping Saturday 3-14-09

This was my swap from our group meeting on the 13th. I was so excited to use some of the product from the new occasions mini catalog. I loved that the butterfly matched the butterfly die cut. I stamped on the die cut butterfly after I cut it out. I also used directly to paper technique to add a little more to the edge. I created the antlers by cutting off the side of the white 1/4″ grosgrain ribbon. Then I pulled out some of the fibers. This is what I used to tie around the butterfly.

Freewheeling Friday 3-13-09

This was a fun card that I made for swaps last year. This card used all the fun in-colors from last year. I believe they were Purely Pomegranate, Blue Bayou, Wild Wasabi, and Soft Sky. This is a fun masking technique. I also used watercolor for the presents. The tag was done using glossy white paper. I stamped in VersaMark® and then embossed it. Then I used the brayer to roll color over the top of it. The back ground was just using a simple roller. I love using rollers for backgrounds because they are fast and easy.

Thrifty Thursday 3-12-09

We really had fun at club last night doing these great projects using the Circle Cutter. I decided that it was a good one for Thrifty Thursday because the circle cutter can really save you a lot of money. I cuts circles from I think one inch up to 6″ and anywhere in-between. I also love that it cuts rings. I have seen fun papers made with circles and I love that now I can create my own in any color combination that I want. I also love the texture that it adds.

Now I will be honest the circle cutter does take a little practice as they quickly found out at club. However once you get it down I think you will love it as much as I do. It is so smooth and fast. I’ve really enjoyed playing with it and I’m sure I will enjoy it for many years to come. Right now is the perfect time to get this great product because when you by the cutter and the mat plus replacement blades it puts you over $50.00 so you can get a sale-a-bration set. This item has been on back order so you may not be able to order it on-line, however you can place an order through me. Be sure to get your orders in early as I leave on the 20th and won’t be back until the 30th.

I really love how I could use the punches to work with the circle cutter. On this card I punched out the Congratulations (from the new spring mini). I also punched the Chocolate Chip and Old Olive back ground papers. Then I used the circle cutter for the larger Cameo Coral circle.

We also focused on texture on the projects. The Old Olive papers are all textured card-stock. On many of the Chocolate Chip papers we ran them through the big shot using the circle texture plates. It’s hard to see but it really adds to the pages and card.

Wacky Wednesday 3-11-09

So you are probably wondering why these fun cards are featured under Wacky Wednesday. Well it’s really pretty simple. When I was looking at these cards and trying to decide where to put them I realized that I had forgotten to post my projects of the month.

These cute cards match the projects perfectly. I will hopefully get them posted later today. So I figured I was a little Wacky and running behind as usual.

Since I leave on the 20th and I’m getting a late start on getting out my monthly projects I decided two things. First I’m going to extend the deadline for this month (see more info with the projects) and 2nd I’m going to give the products to make these to cards with any kit that is ordered before the end of the month. Both of these cards were ones we made at our shoebox swap a few weeks ago. I’m not sure who designed the one with the rectangle but I know the circle one was by my awesome up-line Janice Barlow.
