Wacky Wednesday 1-14-09

Here is just another simple rub-on, but I love it.  Sometimes I think we try to make things to complicated and need to remember that simple can be just as elegent.  I love the white rub-on with the black and white photo.

limited-editionIf you can’t tell this is one of the very cute pictures of my little Xander when he was a baby.

All I’ve done is put the rub on directly onto the glass.  If I were putting it into a scrapbook page I would put it directly onto the picture for the same effect.  The nice thing about the glass is that I can change out the picture and still have the saying there.

Don’t you just love rub-ons.  If you haven’t given them a try yet the I really encourage you to start today.

Technique Tuesday 1-13-09

These awesome matches were made by my up-line Mindy Bywater.  She did them for a Convention Swap last year.  I think her and Janice used them for a club later because I made the card at one of Janice’s Demo Club nights.  Now your are probably wondering why they would be on technique Tuesday.  Well if you look closely at the ear of the Elephant you can see why.  On all of the animals she has used the beads.

I thought this was defiantly a fun and different way to use the beads.  If you’ve never tried them before then here’s the easy steps to use them.  I usually use both beads when I make things, but here she only used the micro beads.  I believe that we used the crystal effects.

First you want to stamp your image like normal.  Next you want to cut your image out if you are cutting them.  All the animals on the page are cut out.  The card is just on a square.  Once you have cut out your images you are ready to put on the beads.

wild-about-you-pagesI’m going to be bad here and suggest something other than our wonderful powder pals when working with the beads.  The reason is the tiny beads bounce really bad and are full of static.  I sometimes use the large powder pal underneath, but I’ve actually found what works best is a piece of paper folded in 1/2.  I use the grid paper because it’s nice and big.  I like the paper because it doesn’t cause as much static and I can fold it completely in 1/2 and pour the beads back into the container without them bouncing everywhere.

To apply the beads you want to apply just a very thin layer of crystal effects and then sprinkle on the beads.  Don’t worry about spilling some on your paper that’s why we made it so that we could funnel them back into the container.

wild-elephantShake off any loose beads and set them aside and to dry.  Make sure you let them dry really good.  You don’t want to try and apply them to the page when they are still wet or you will squish your beads and it won’t look good.

If you are doing just a small area like on the giraffe.  (It’s just his tail and the top of his antlers.) The easiest and best way to do it is just to dip the end of the desired part into the beads.  This is a lot less messy and and a lot faster too.

Now you are probably wondering where she got the cute circles from that are on the two stripes.  It’s actually one of the center’s available for the Pick a Petal #109445 $27.95.  Another fun thing she added is all the dots on the words are actually brads.  They would also be really fun to do with the beads.

I hope you try this fun technique at home.  I will show you another time how to use the beads with both sizes.

Marvelous Monday 1-12-09

I know we have lots of great new Valentines sets and projects but I thought I’d pull one out from last year.  This set is on the dormant list now, but I think you will probably find it in the new catalog.  Either way I know it’s not being retired so I thought I’d show it off.  Maybe I’ll try and add some more samples using the great big shot top note die and the mini catalog sets.

heart-day-ribbon-edgeThis is another Marvelous Marker technique.  This technique is great because it allows you to get more versatile colors with just a white roll of ribbon.  It’s actually really easy all you need is your white ribbon, your stampin’ write marker and scratch piece of paper.

To color the edge of the ribbon simple drag the brush edge of the marker along the edge.  Don’t worry if you go off the edge a little bit because once you tie it you really don’t notice.  I had fun with this technique and used it as just an accent.  You can also see it on my Celebrate page for the Freewheeling Friday Post on January 2nd.

So give it a try and see what you can come up with.

Swapping Saturday 1-10-09

Cute as a Bug is the title and I would have to agree.  this page is definitely cute.

cute-as-a-bugI recieved this swap at Convention last year.  I absoultly love it and love the colors.  I really wish she would have put her name on it so I could give her credit.  This page is extra fun because of what she did with each of the bugs on the side.

cb-dragonflyThe Pacific Point Dragonfly has Iridescent Ice Embossing Powder on it’s wings.

cb-catapilerThe Tangerine Tango Caterpillar has blag Chunky Glitter for it’s stripes.

cb-grasshopperThe Kiwi Kiss Grasshopper has Crystal Effects on it’s big eye.

cb-wormThe Ridding Hood Red Worm has red microbead on it’s stripes.

These fun effects really add to the page.  I encourage you to think outside the box and try some of these fun effects.

Update- This page was created by Kelly Hymas.

Freewheeling Friday 1-9-09

This is another page swap that I made.  It think it was for convention last year.

dino-play-pagesI used the Jumbo Roller Spot On #107559 $8.50 for the side piece then finished the rest of it with our fun dinosaur set Prehistoric Pals #111106 for $18.95.

I wanted to use the new in-colors, but at the time I couldn’t buy enough to use for all the back ground.  So I used the Always Artichoke with the Baja Breeze, Pacific Point and Tangerine Tango.

The play is stamped with Whisper White ink with our Big Deal Alphabet set. #107345 for $40.95.

I used the Twill Tape #105245 $5.95 to hang the dino tag on with linen thread #104199 $4.50.

I have 4 boys and one loves dinosaurs so I thought this would make a really fun scrapbook page.

Thrifty Thursday 1-8-09

This is the Birthday card that I made for our Stampin’ Up! Birthday Celebration.  I decided to use it for Thrifty Thursday because it is so easy to make and the style allows you to use all the paper in the DSP pack.

celbrate-b-day-cardI have used the Rainbow Sherbet #112471.  Not only does this paper sound yummy, but it is just so cute.  This card is very versital and can be used for either a boy or a girl.

The basic card is made with Apricot Appeal.  Then I used Gable Green behind the DSP.  I used Tempting Turquoise for the scallop and the 1/4″ ribbon then top off the ribbon with Apricot Appeal 1 /4″ grosgrain ribbon.

My Scallop is actually a special embosslit die that said 20 years.  It is to celebrate Stampin’ Up! 20 years in business this year.  However you could use the scallop circle punch. I covered it with a tag from the deer friends hostess set and punched it out with our 1 3/8 circle punch to create a beautiful layered look.  I didn’t want the tag to be stamped in just one color so I use our Stampin’ Markers to color directly onto the Stamp.

I finished the card by stamping happy birthday for the Bitty Birthday set #110994 for $12.95.  Because the tag just says a little something you could leave off the Birthday stamp or stamp it with a variety of other stamps for almost any occasion.

So between the versatile saying and being able to use all the designer series paper on just one card lay out I think this card is very thrifty
