Easy Winter Craft: Faux Buffalo Check Cards

Nothing says cozy winter crafting like a Buffalo Check background! ❄️
This week’s Make It With Me Monday was all about creating a faux Buffalo Check look using simple supplies and a few easy steps. I made this fun card for the Christmas Card Challenges β€” and I absolutely love how the faux Buffalo Check background turned out. It’s the perfect background technique for all your winter projectsβ€” warm, rustic, and so fun to make!! πŸ–€β€οΈ

To create your own faux Buffalo Check background, you’ll need:

  • πŸŸ₯ A piece of red or white cardstock
  • ⬛ A black ink pad
  • πŸ–ŒοΈ A blending brush
  • πŸ“„ Masking paper
  • ✨ Your favorite stamps and embellishments

I used the Weekend Adventure stamp set to finish my project β€” it pairs perfectly with this pattern for a fun, outdoorsy feel.

πŸŽ„βœ¨ Be sure to follow along to see all my creations for the Christmas Card Challenge!

Today’s cards are for Day 3 featuring:
🎨 #30DayChristmasCardMakingChallenge – Sketch Challenge #1
β˜• #ACardADayInNovember2025 – Warm & Cozy Christmas

Think cozy cocoa mugs, snuggly sweaters, cute mittens, and classic Buffalo Check patterns β€” the perfect ingredients for a warm holiday vibe. β€οΈπŸ’š

β˜• This or That: Whipped Cream or Marshmallows?

Since this card has such a cozy winter vibe, I had to ask… what’s your favorite topping for a warm cup of cocoa? Tell me in the comments β€” Team Whipped Cream or Team Marshmallows? β˜•οΈπŸ«

🎨 Why I Love This Technique

What makes this background so special? It’s easy, adaptable, and looks like patterned paper β€” without ever having to cut into your DSP stash! You can switch up the colors, change the ink intensity, or even try it in non-traditional combos for Valentine’s or spring cards.

πŸ’Œ Additional Samples

I couldn’t stop at just one! Here are a few extra samples I created using this same technique. Each card shows just how versatile this background can be β€” from rustic holiday designs to cozy winter greetings.

❄️ Day 2 – Two Challenges, One Design!

Don’t you just love it when a single layout and stamp set can do double (or even triple!) duty? Today’s projects prove just how versatile our crafting supplies can be!

For Day 2 of my Christmas card challenges, I reached for the Jar of Joy stamp set and punch to create two different cards using the same layout design. With just a few tweaks to color and embellishments, I was able to make each card fit its challenge theme perfectlyβ€”and they both turned out so fun and festive!

Here’s what I took on today:
✨ #ACardADayInNovember – Day 2: Winter Wonderland
🍭 #30DayChristmasCardMakingChallenge – Day 2: Candy Cottage

I combined both designs with a layout inspired by the Holiday Catalog, and I’m loving how they capture two completely different holiday vibes while using the same creative foundation. One card feels frosty and elegant, while the other is sweet and whimsicalβ€”proof that one good layout can spark endless possibilities!

If you’re following along with these challenges, try using the same layout or stamp set for multiple prompts this week. It’s a fun way to stretch your creativity and make the most of your supplies.

Day 1 – Creative Christmas Cards with Paper Pumpkin Kits

For Day 1 of my Christmas card challenges, I decided to reach for my Paper Pumpkin kit! I love how quick and easy these kits make it to get crafty β€” especially when time is short and creativity is flowing.

Three crafted Christmas cards featuring traditional holiday designs, including an ornament with 'Deck the Halls,' a card stating 'Merry Christmas,' and one proclaiming 'Joy to the World,' adorned with festive decorations in red and green.

This month’s kit was the perfect way to jump into the holiday spirit with some traditional red and green cheer. I wanted to see if I could stretch the kit a little further, so I challenged myself to create one card that worked for both of my Christmas card challenges β€” plus fit the #GDP520 challenge, too!

To round it out I couldn’t resist adding in a fun scrapbook layout using some of the leftover pieces, too!

Here’s what I took on today:
✨ #ACardADayInNovember – Day 1: Traditional Red & Green Cheer
πŸŽ… #30DayChristmasCardMakingChallenge – Day 1: Merry and Bright Beginning
πŸ’š #GDP520 – CASE the Designer: Sue Mohr

It’s amazing how versatile these Paper Pumpkin kits are β€” you can create cards, tags, gift packaging, or even add them into your memory-keeping projects. My scrapbook page features the same theme as my card β€” bright pops of red and green, festive accents, and a cozy, cheerful vibe.

Paper Pumpkin is a monthly craft kit delivered to your doorβ€”perfect for quick, beautiful projects. Subscribe by the 10th to get next month’s kit

If you haven’t opened your kit yet, this is your reminder: pull it out, play along, and see how far your creativity can go! βœ‚οΈβœ¨

If you’d like to join in the fun and play along check out my Facebook group for links to both groups.
And Remember to share your own creations β€” I’d love to see how you use your Paper Pumpkin this season! πŸ’Œ

Spooky Fun with Global Design Project #GDP511

This week’s Global Design Project challenge was all about using letters or numbers in our creations, and I couldn’t resist having a little spooky fun! πŸ‘»

I decided to make a playful Halloween card with a hidden surprise inside. On the front, I kept it creepy-cute with a mummy-style design, complete with googly eyes peeking out and bold letters spelling β€œBOO.” The little spiders and ribbon detail added just the right finishing touches.

But the real magic happens when you open the card! Inside, a bright and cheerful monster pops up, showing off big eyes, sharp (but friendly) teeth, and a touch of candy corn for good measure. It’s such a fun way to combine the challenge theme with a seasonal project.

That’s what I love about these challengesβ€”they push me to think outside the box and come up with designs I might not have tried otherwise.

Here’s a closer look at the details:

  • Front of the card: spooky letters + mummy bandages + spiders
    • #166191 Spooky Sweet 12 x12 Specialty Designer Series Paper
    • #166106 Fright Night Dies
    • #166103 Fright Night Stamp Set
    • #166203 Petunia Pop Iridescent Ribbon
    • #166202 Shimmer Star Foam Stickers
  • Inside: colorful monster made with die cuts and stamped background

    • #162722 Trusty Tools (eye – center)

      • Granny Apple Green
      • Petunia Pop
      • Pumpkin Pie
