Bamboo Beauty

Some of you may know that I spent two and a half years as a the Assistant General Manager at the Spring Hill Suites. In November I decided that I need to take a break from that job to have more time to focus on my family, myself and my stamping. I loved the people that I worked with and wanted a simple easy card that I could make multiples of for my co-workers and staff. Page 86 of the catalog gave me just what I needed. I changed it up just slightly and added some ribbon but still used the same basic idea. I really love this stamp set and will be sad to see it go.

One of the things I enjoyed about the job was creating cards and gifts for both employees and guests who stayed with us. I’m excited that I will get the chance to do it again as I start tomorrow as the General Manager Hampton Inn. As this is a smaller hotel I’m hoping that I will still be able devote time to my renewed passion of stamping and sharing my creations with you.

I will give you a quick tip on creating this card. I stamped off for the larger bamboo pieces and used the full strength for the leaves. This gave me the depth in the colors that you see. You will also notice that I used slightly different colors than the ones in the samples in the catalog.

Happy Birthday

Did you know that today is my birthday!

Yep it is and to celebrate I wanted to share with you three different birthday card sets featuring retiring stamp sets. This first set is my favorite; however, one of the things I like about all these cards is that the layouts are mostly interchangeable. I’ve used the current In Colors on all these cards. While these colors will be around for another year, many of the accessories are not so I recommend grabbing them soon before they are gone (if they aren’t already.) There are three cards for each stamp set as there are three main images in each set. Also, each set uses the same layout but each card is twisted to show the versatility of the layouts.

Party Puffins

This set features a pocket to hold a gift card or cash for a quick and easy gift. I love how easy it is to create this pocket. I actually saw a tutorial for it on Facebook. I will work to get a video done to show you how easy it is to create this pocket. One of my favorite parts of this set of cards is the background. Even though the colors are all different the background is created the same way. I actually used a VersaMark pad and clear embossing powder rather than stamping it with the ink. This is what gives it the shine that you see. I also added shine to the penguin birthday hats using the Wink of Stella Brush.

  • 155054 – Party Puffins Stamp Set (R)
  • 158925 – Rays of Light Stamp Set (C)

This Birthday Piggy

I featured the In Color designer series paper for this set of cards and a design that uses a half cut front. The part that is cut off is actually scored and placed under the background paper to create the part that flips over the card you can see this in the open section. I made sure to include the greeting beneath the flipped section. I will admit that I used the dies that were available a while back to cut out the images rather than fussy cutting them. They were available on the clearance rack, but I’m not sure if they are still there.

Elephant Parade

I got this fun idea from one of my fellow demonstrator Michelle Pepper. Again I mixed up the layout to show the same concept different ways. This stamp set doesn’t have as many stamps that work for birthday sayings so I did bring in a different stamp set for one of the sayings, but it does have other saying that you can use to create a variety of cards. I used the Wink of Stella Brush again to add sparkle to the balloons and the background is created using the In Color Glimmer paper. Just a note be sure to stamp your creating before you emboss your background to make sure you get a clear stamped image.

Nothing’s Better Than Stamp Set

I fell in love with this stamp set from the first moment I saw it, but in the time that I’ve had it I’ve struggled to actually create with it. This week the Global Design Project has a color challenge #GDP389 which included the colors Daffodil Delight, Pumpkin Pie & Tahitian Tide. When deciding what retiring stamp set to use I thought that the cocktails in this set would make for a perfect. Honestly, I love how it turned out. I know that there are stamps in the set that you can use to fill in the element of the cocktail glass however I decided to used my markers instead. This allowed me to have different levels of liquid in the glass. To add a bit of sparkle I finished them off by coloring them with the Wink of Stella Clear Glitter Brush. Which just so happens to be one of my favorite ways to add a bit of sparkle to a project. This set has so many great words that I just had to use multiple on the card. I also could resist stamping on the inside of the card as well.

When I’m creating I often struggle with coming up with a layout. I’ve turned to creating my own challenge which is to choose a design layout from my collection in my Pinterest board. I also have a board for color combos that I will use when needed. I turned to this board when trying to decided on a layout for this design. I love Pinterest for ideas. It’s a great place to get inspiration. I also use the catalogs, follow other stampers on Facebook and blogs, and sometimes search the internet or just look around me. What do you use for inspirations when you are feeling stuck?

After making my first card I decided to challenge myself to make more cards using this stamp set and the same color combo. The hard part was in my mind this color combo didn’t really work with the other words and images in the stamp set. This meant I needed to think a bit out of the box to create these cards. I also challenged myself to continue to use layouts from my Pinterest board. Can you figure out which layouts I used? The last challenged I used was to incorporate more retiring product including, dies, embossing folders, colors and embellishments. I’d love to hear which design is your favorite. If you take a moment you’ll see I tried to use almost every stamp and every die to create these cards. Again I stamped the inside of each card and I used multiple of the different sayings.

Ranunculus Romance Stamp Set

My normal style is a bit more contemporary but I really loved the look of this stamp set and wanted to try something a bit different. I was trying to go for more layers and textures with this card. I wasn’t sure how it was going to turn out, but I really like it. I have to thank my friend Rose Coleman for the idea to layer the two circle together to create a paper circle. While I’ve seen it before she recently used it in one of her projects and it helped to inspire me.

The idea was to add a lot of layers and details to make this card pop so I wanted to give you a closer look of some of the details. I used the linen paper as the background and embossed it then stamped directly on it. I cut out the circle by layering the two circle dies then I embossed it and used the directly to paper technique with white ink to add additional dimension.

The stamped images are all fussy cut and the ribbon is created by making a circle with the Metallic Mesh. I wrapped the Silver Simply Elegant Trim around three fingers three times then placed it against the Metallic Mesh and tied it around the center. The Sweet Sorbet metallic was just layered back and forth on the back ground.

I created the tag by slipping just one end of my paper into the best label punch to punch just the one side and create a longer tag then just punching the word out. I finished the project out by adding basic pearls.

#TGIFC415 Color Challenge

Did you know that there is a fun blog called TGIF Challenges? Each week they present a new challenge idea that anyone can participate in. I love challenges because they are often the push I need to be a little different than my norm or to just get me stamping. As I have been working to get through all of my retiring stamp set to create projects to share I thought that this challenge would be an excellent way to see what I could create using a retiring stamp set as well as the challenge. This week the challenge was for a color combo – Real Red, Daffodil Delight and Bermuda Bay. You can check out their samples here #TGIFC415 Color Challenge.

I also wanted to try something a little different with this card. I have always enjoyed the paper piecing technique and decided rather than doing it as the front of the card I would use it to create the card base and do a little something different for the card opening. I’ve created this quick video for you to show how easy it is to create this background and card.

I actually created this card using the hello beautiful stamp set for the challenge first, but I liked the sailboat card better so I featured it first in the blog. The inspiration for my card was from the January-June 2022 Mini Catalog – pg 50 where the stamp set was highlighted. I keep all my old catalogs as they are a great source of inspiration for color combos, layouts or just to spark the imagination. Do you keep your catalogs? Did you know a new catalog will be coming out in May? Be sure to contact me if you would like to receive your own catalog.

I even used one of our online exclusive embossing folders. Recently Stampin’ Up! introduced new products that are only found online.
